Subject: Food vs. Fuel debate

Blooming where I am planted!

Was looking at this blog post.  Interesting stuff but don't necessarily agree with comment below--seems way too simplistic and uninformed.  What do you think?

“On August 21, I was driving past a large sod farm in southern Wisconsin. Due to the major downturn in home and business construction, this farm had converted much of their acreage into corn production. I am sure it is difficult to anticipate where the market and technology will be in a year or two down the road. Most farmers have on their mind, “How do I provide for my family, pay my employees (if any) and stave off my creditors this year?” I don’t think we need government regulation to say X amount should be used for food and X amount as fuel, and I don’t believe that subsidies are necessary. Government should focus on clearing the way for innovation and new business ideas and let the market for corn and other commodities take care of themselves.”
