North Central Illinois | I was slightly encouraged. Kernal depth is what kind of surprised me. It appears almost normal. Ears are from 22 to 32 long and 14 to 20 around. So much variability I'm not even gonna hazard a guess at yield right now. We had good rains in June with our last one being June 25th. Had a couple of two to three tenth events mid to late July and finally got an inch two weeks ago. Had 2.5" last Saturday and have had a little over an inch so far today. I think the beans have a chance at being decent even though there was some pod abortion. To everyone that is harvesting poor corn or waiting for a rain, you have my condolences. Corn harvest appears to be on target for the second week of September around here. | |
