near dyersville iowa | I have two separate fields with the same variety of corn planted in them. Field #1 has 20 rows around and 34 kernels long. Field #2 has 18 rows around and 30 kernels long. However field #2 has kernels that are nearly twice the size of #1. Field #1 is following alfalfa, #2 is following ac greenfix(grazed) and a fairly poor stand of radishes. Each field was treated the same as far as fertilizer and herbicide program. #1 is a little more black ground and #2 is a little more clayish. Fields were planted within 4 days of each other. Any ideas why one would have much bigger kernel size, and the other bigger ears? Tillage was same on both fields also. Soil type or weather? or any other ideas.. | |
