Schlegel Farms, Hagerstown Indiana | I rented some ground and put my first crop out in 1968. I don't think I have ever had less idea what sort of a harvest I am looking at than this year.
Started out way to wet...went to way to dry... then got some rain with 60mph winds and found out I didn't have good brace roots....went back to way to dry. Also have dealt had 117 heat index while the early corn (that's an oxymoron as it was planted May 11) was pollinating. Later corn (June) I have to wonder how well corn pollinates while laying on its side (it's still pollinating).
Wife and I joked that the early sweet corn looked like the little pickled ears you buy in a jar.
I looked at some ears, in the field, last week and found everything you could imagine.
Right now the best/safest estimated yield I can figure is 1 or 2 bushels over my crop insurance guarantee (LoL)
