Subject: wheat problems

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
Had the best wheat crop in years coming on until the last week or so. Leaf rust is showing up pretty bad. Some plants/varieties have 2/3rds of the leaf dead. Alot of flag leaves are at least half covered with rust. Grain fill is done and in the soft dough stage. Plenty of moisture to finnish the crop as ground is wet from last weeks 2" rains.
Just how much yield loss would you predict? Is test weight going to be the main issue?
Also, tommorrow we are supposed to have 40-50 mph winds and be near 100 degrees. Have had only a couple of days this year over 90. What will that do to the crop? Supposed to only be one day then cool down again.
The wheat had not used up any of its nine lives but it is using them up pretty fast here at the end I believe. We should be about 3 weeks from harvest. HRW
