Subject: wheat conditions

Rome, KS
I would like to do an informal survey of wheat in Plains. Any and all input appreciated. I just want to see if some other people's wheat has gone down hill as much as it has around here.
I live in southern Sumner Co.,KS. Started out the spring with extremely high yield potential (80?). Looked at a field last night and might avg. 15 to 20. This is all freeze damage. I stayed cool and wet earlier to allow the stem to somewhat heal, but as it halfway filled, those damaged spots are just to weak. I was also suprised to see how poorly the heads have filled. Need to look at others to get a feel, but this may be the worst.
Had another 2-3" rain last night. If anyone is bored in about two weeks come down and we'll put you to work. Looks like we'll be planting beans, milo, sorghum silage, cutting wheat and finishing up the first cutting and starting the second cutting of alfalfa all at the same. Older farmers around here don't remember a spring like this before. (WET, to say the least)
