| Took a steer into the locker today. Talking with the owner, he says this is the slowest April he's ever had, and he's been there 23 years. Feels a) there isn't as much livestock in the country, and b) gas prices have gotten it to where people don't have the money. He's basically battening down the hatches. Which brings me to my next thought. He actually wound up paying MORE taxes this year, because he has put stuff off and quit hiring somr things done, not because he had such a great year. Tne Statw of MO announced the other day that tax collections were up some 13%. I wonder how much of that is due to small Businesses actually hunkering down and not makimg capital purchases on depreciable goods? Gonna be an interesting summer. | |
