Subject: A closer look at the L5 frequency in GNSS

Cedar Rapids, Iowa
GPSWorld hosts webinars on various topics related to GNSS. There was a presentation this week on the new L5 frequency that is being tested on one GPS satellite currently.

Summary:
- L5 signal will be 4x more powerful than the L2C we use today. Should work better around trees/buildings.
- Using a combination of GPS and GALILEO satellites, we might be able to start using L5 in 2015.
- It will be at least 2019 before GPS gets to a fully populated 24 satellites that can do L5.
