Subject: Planting Broome grass in spring?

Last Aug/Sept was too dry to plant Broome grass here in eastern New York. Any one with experience planting in the spring?

Thought I'd use an oats nurse crop but trying to figure out how to avoid an extra trip over the field to broadcast the broome. It's too big for the seeder on the drill and bridges up in the grain box.

I've heard of putting the broome in with the oats in the grain box. What kind of ratio would I need to mix oats and broome so they would flow?
Is there a way to figure out the application rate of the mix without calibrating the drill?

What did you do with the oats, cut green or combine? I don't have access to a combine in my area.

Thanks
