Subject: Rent Auction

SW MN
Was told yesterday of a cash rent auction close to NWIA-SWMN border that bought $460/acre, $1,000 nonrefundable to bid. I envision it to be fairly close to Kooiker's area. Anyone else?

Who gets the $1000 bucks, landowner or auctioneer?

Tink about that from the landowners perspective. Say you have a 240 to rent. You get 10 guys to pony up $1000 to come play, and you just got $40 bucks an acre for nothing.

Haven't heard anything but I haven't been to town for a few days, I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Added------   You wouldn't be talking about a piece of ground that the city of Sheldon owns would you?

If so I heard a little bit about it and your $/acre is pretty in line with what I heard but I didn't hear anything about the $1000.  That was a few weeks ago, month maybe.

Mike.....by Mulder Imp., that ground is flat and black....seems they always raise good crops. Can be wet sometimes. By the way have you heard of any ground in Pipestone county getting rented and if so how much?
I saw where someone posted that ground by Mitchell,SD was being offered in the $300. range. At those rates I might be closer to retiring than I previously had planned. Originally was thinking to farm thru 2012.

Jordon.....we were down that way with the motorcycles last summer. South and a little west of Platte. Must have been close to your area then. How much snow cover do you have?
We are still in southern Indiana by Louisville and its been raining here since last night......2 1/2 inches on top of already saturated soils. Took the motorcycle out yesterday....wheat is greening up real nice, but lots of standing water.

Jordan, there was some Huber ground right by the James River along highway 44 that brought 267 for 3 years, also an old landlord from the Mitchell area called and said he had some old land we farmed and was asking 300.

Was it by chance a whole section offered for rent as two half sections?

The ground around Mulders area is really good dirt BUT it is very wet ground and flat.   Needs tile, lots and lots of tile but there really isn't anywhere to drain it to.

Wet years hurt that ground a bunch.
