Market Review -
A few days in Washington D.C. can sure open your eyes. 1st, most Senators and Representatives we talked to just wanted to know the truth on any issue. It’s important to tell your story because others are going to tell theirs and no person can make a national decision having only one side. The important issues we talked about were horse slaughter. If you need information on this issue call me personally and I will get statistics that will help you talk to your representatives with facts. Animal ID was discussed with the chairman of the Senate Ag Committee, Secretary of Ag Mike Johns and his staff, the chairman of Senate Appropriation Committee and the Head of Animal Plant Health Inspection Service. What was interesting to me was everywhere in the Agriculture Department all knew about 101 Livestock and our efforts to lead the beef industry on Animal Health and ID issues. While they might not know Jim Warren, they were excited to meet with someone from 101 and discuss the implementation of some of our success nationally.
Now about the market; Cows were higher, bulls steady, and calves and yearlings steady to strong. We sold 1802 cattle and are expecting 2500 next week. Ruth Anderson of San Miguel sold 691# steers at 106.00. Tina Baxley of San Miguel sold 509# steers at 121.00. Barney Bray of King City sold 608# charx steers at 112.00. Bob & Mary Lou Coffelt of Hollister sold 592# steers at 105.50. De Dampierre Ranch of Chualar sold 760# steers for 98.00. John Doud of Greenfield sold 403# steers at 125.00 and 507# steers at 121.00; his heifers weighing 436# at 112.00. Joel and Linda Hayden of Three Rivers sold 444# steers at 121.00, the heifers weighing 428# at 113.00. Wayne Lamb of Covelo sold 475# steers at 122.75, his heifers weighing 411# at 114.00. Josh Palm of San Miguel sold 440# heifers at 110.00 his steers weighing 432# at 123.00. Ernie Prewett of Paicines sold fleshy 671# steers at 99.00. Alberta Rist of King City sold 442# steers at 118.00 the heifers weighing 434# at 111.00. Vern and Joann Scattini of King City sold 405# steers at 121.00. Dick Vieira of Hollister sold some fancy yearling steers weighing 732# at 100.00. Chris and Tina Wilson of Covelo sold 475# steers at 122.25. Windermere Ranch of Paicines sold 414# steers at 121.00. Mike Velluntini of Healdsburg sold 515# steers at 120.00, his heifers weighing 407# at 110.00. Mark Tidwell of King City sold 448# heifers at 110.00.
You can see the market was good and I expect things to be a little stronger next week. So be sure to call with your consignments so we can set the trucks and be ready as the run picks up.
