Illinois | While performing some repairs to our 7140 this spring we decided to have the fuel pump checked out, because just before pulling the tractor into the shop it seemed to crank for much longer than normal to start. Usually it would start at the touch of the key.
After the local pump shop said there was some minor pump wear, and after they replaced some parts, we reinstalled, and the cranking problem was not fixed. We also replaced the lift pump.
Progressively through the spring the problem got worse, and now the tractor will crank for a good 5-7 seconds before firing and coughs around at about 450 rpms, just enough to stay running, for 5-7 more seconds before running normally at about 900 idle rpms. It runs fine after that but acts the same on each start-up.
Tractor has 6200 hours and is a 1990 model. Ideas? | |
