| Been through 3 years of basically the same thing. Wet, wet, wet. This year is the same thing, although a little warmer than last year. About 5 years ago, amid dire predictions of global warming, dryer weather for the area, etc, etc, we committed some of the more erosive, less productive ground to hay, some Alfalfa, and some Brome. Well, ever since, it's basically been impossible to get up hay. Last year we only managed 3 cuts of Alfalfa(should be 5 and one was terrible quality), and one cut of Brome, should be 2-3. This year looks to be the same. If 20+ inches of rain for April, May, June is going to be the new normal, then it's time to abandon, or tone down, the hay thing, and switch acres back to row crop production. We've already actually done some. | |
