Subject: poppet vs ball type hydraulic tips

Iowa
Other than the obvious poppet being a little longer and flat on the end and ball being round, what is the difference between the two? Can they be used interchangeably or is one more suited for one type use or do they have to match the inside of your female connector? Using Pioneer ends and they both seem to fit the same, always wondered which was better.
