perryton, tx | We have had a decent outbreak of stripe rust in our wheat this year. On my farm i am seeing it worst in TAM 112 and Neosho. At a recent field day a TAMU disease specialist was saying that there appears to be a new race of stripe rust this year, as several previously resistant varieties are seeing heavy infections. What i am wondering is if as these rust fungi mutate, can varieties that had lost their resistance to the previous races be suddenly resistant to the new ones? I ask this because my Thunderbolt got wiped out by stripe in the last bad outbreak we had (2005) but has not been affected to speak of during this current outbreak. Anybody else seeing this type of situation? | |
