Subject: Questions on crop insurance

southern mn
I've been sitting here trying to figure out a worst case scenario for my situation. My aph is 170 average and with 75 %coverage my guarantee is about 128 bushels an acre. If I have 128 bushels per acre harvested and forward contracted at say 3.50, my dollars per acre would be $448. It looks like 4.00 will be the spring price for ra so that guarantee would be 512 per acre. Say the price is the same or higher in the fall. I would not be able to participate in any RA coverage because I grew my guarantee bushels and sold them. I understand that if it is lower in the fall my bushel guarantee goes up. My concern is if it is higher. It seems I would be better off unsold or up my coverage to 80 or 85%. I can cover hail with insurance which I intend to do, but any other factors leave me unable to participate to the upside, I think. Am I missing something? Renville county, So Mn. Our basis is normally -50 cents.
