Subject: ATTN: White Guys - White Prototype Tractors

Dallas Center IA 515-720-2463
The deal below about the White '2-90' got me to thinking about something that the White sales people let slip out.

It was in both White sales literature for the plow line and at least one annual catalog.

It was the time of the interduction of the model 598 hydraulically adjustable cutting width plow.
1974 or 1975

A model 598 plow, six bottom, non-SAR, in-furrow hitch being pulled by what looks like a White 2-150 tractor.

There were two pictures printed, both the same shot, but one of them shows more of the front part of the tractor than the other.
And the only one I could find is the one that just shows the back of the tractor and the rear wheels.
I know I have the other one someplace, but as both Dave Morgan and Terry Wimp will say, "Bobby has a lot of tractor books and sales literature."
It can be pretty hard to find what you are looking for.

So you are going to have to take my word for it.

The back wheels are outboard planetarys like the 2-150.
The three point hitch is the old Oliver 6000 pound Cat III, with the two external lift cylinders. Like a 2-150.

The cab and what you can see inside is the early White row crop cab, as a 2-150.

But in the other picture I saw that the pre-cleaner was behind the muffer, not in front as a 2-150.
But like a Oliver 2255.

Looking more I saw that the side sheets had a flare towards the rear. And under those side sheets was a V8 engine, A Caterpillar 3208 V8 !!

Sure wish I could find that other pic.

At the time Allis-Chalmers had a 180 hp row crop, and I think the 180 hp Case 1570 was on the market then. It was pre Deere 4840.
Tractors are getting bigger
I think when I noticed it the White's big row crop was the 2-155 at 155 hp +/-

Could White have a 180 hp tractor on the way?
I had figured they would put an intercooler on the 478 cube Herc 6 cylinder of the 2-155 for there 180 hp model.

But now I have pretty much decided the tractor was a prototype for the 150 hp class and the pic was probably the 1972 - 73 - 74 time period.

It was an Oliver 2255 with the new White cab, tin and paint.
But this design lost out to the MM engined 2-150.

Did any of you old Oliver or White folks notice the picture?

Does anyone know if that V8 tractor ever was sold to a farmer?
Or has anyone ever seen the tractor.

Sure wish I could find that other pic that showd the front.

Lexion combines, Challenger track tractors, White and/or Kinze Planters!!!!!
