Subject: Nitrogen in Direct Seeded Corn

Grabill, Indiana
As many of you know we are in the second year of our row crop farming as an expansion to our hay farm. Last year we raised all soybeans, this year we will be seeding both corn and soybeans using a no-till planter. The corn will be planted into soybean stubble and wheat stubble. We are researching the use of a 'pop up' starter at planting using a liquid fertilizer and something like the Totally Tubular applicator.

In a direct seeded crop how do you apply your Nitrogen? My only experience with N was in Iowa where I helped with fall N application in ground destined to be field cultivated for corn planting.
