I checked on my vast acreage of sweet corn today of about 200 plants. I was feeling the cobs to see how they are filling and one felt really lumpy, when I opened it up I found this alien life form inside. I did a quick google and think it may be boil smut. Any corn experts opinions would be appreciated.

I don't grow any field corn here, just a small plot of sweet corn each year and have never seen this before. TIA
