Gruver Tx | It’s been a long year of drought, heat and wind and I am suffering from decision fatigue. Elevator changed schedule this year and having a little difficulty deciding when I should start harvesting based on discount schedule. Very uneven drought stressed irrigated corn and last 2 weeks of wind and temps. in high 90s.
From 15.5-17.9 deducting 1.3 per point on weight which I feel is pretty fair with no drying charges. Same 1.3 per point above 18 with drying charges.
Is 1.2 per point still accepted as fair theoretical shrink?
Drying charges are $/bushel
18=$0.044
18.5=$0.055
19= $0.066
19.5=$0.1092
20=$0.1202
20.5=$0.1312
Using $7.50 a bushel for average price and hopefully 200 bushel yield this year. Farmer Nat. Gas for irrigation been around $9.00 mcf for irrigation for dryer fuel comparison.
Seemed like there was a thread on drying charges in the last few weeks but couldn’t find it. Might have been in phantom yield discussion.
Not sure I calculated cost per acre on shrink and drying charges correctly. I came up with following costs per acre at $7.50/ bu. And 200 bu./acre.
16=$0.75
16.5=$1.50
17=$2.25
18=$12.55
18.5=$15.50
19=$18.45
19.5=27.84
20=$30.79
20.5=$33.74
Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated.
