Subject: Adding another access door to a bin.

Sanilac Co. Michigan
This is my situation.

I've got a 22' Behlen bin with vertical panels and inside stiffners on the panels. Holds @ 4,000 bu and has a full Brock plank floor with only a center sump. If you considered the discharge auger to be at the 6 oclock position , the current door is at 2 o'clock. There's just no good way to put an intermediate sump in.

I guess I'm wondering if I could scrounge up another bin door, cut into the vertical panel over the bin discharge auger and frame it in there. That way I could put an intermediate sump inside the door and make it a whole lot easier to put the sweep in. Im thinking i would need to run stiffners on either side of the new door as well as something horizontal that would tie into the adjacent sheets above and below the door cut out. Would this be enough to support the new hole in the bin?

This was the first bin I moved and put up and I guess there's just some things I didn't think through very well....20 years ago!
