Subject: Wintering Cattle Rations

White Cross, NC
We put up round dry hay to feed our cow and calf’s during the winter and usually feed them ground corn and pellets. Was thinking about using our row crop land to bale our corn stalks and small grain straw. And use corn gluten and soyhulls and feed a TMR with vertical mixer. Would this be cheaper than trying to put up good quality grass hay and trying to get up hay when we are trying to plant soybeans and trying to dodge the rain showers. Also could use our hay land and turn it into row crop ground. Also what would be a ration to feed a 1200-1400lb cow with calves by there side through the winter.
