Subject: International truck and Cummins engine ID

Humeston, IA

I recently purchased a 1979 Intl. F2275 truck with a Cummins NTC230 engine.  Could someone explain to me (or provide a link) the following:

1) What does the "F" stand for?  I've seen IH trucks called 2275 but without the F.

2) I assume the 2275 is part of the 2200 series.  What does the "75" signify?  And what was the main focus of the 2200 series?  Vocational?

3) Thanks to the discussion below, I now understand the NTC230 is an N series, Turbo and Aftercooled 230 HP engine.  Is this an 855 cu inch displacement engine?  How similar/dissimilar is it to an N14 or newer engine?

4) How many quarts/gallons of oil does the NTC230 require?

Thanks for any info!
