I've been a little curious about the best time to wean calves. I see a lot on this board are weaning now. Is that because you are selling this fall? I usually wean and sell mine about 60 days before the next calves start to arrive ie. 60 day dry period like on my dairy.

Do some of you wean early because you're afraid of not being able to keep body condition up on your cows during the winter? What if you had plenty of good feed to keep them in good shape even while still nursing, would you leave the calves on the cows longer?
