Eastern Ontario | I spent the morning helping to sort and weigh cattle coming off our local community pasture. For most of the summer the grass was 'washy', so the gains were not terribly impressive but all the cattle seemed to definitely put on some frame.
This pasture is used strictly for females mostly stockers although there were a few cows. When this pasture was started back in the 1970's it was all bred Holstein heifers, now as there are fewer dairy farms and even fewer dairies that pasture their young cattle the majority of animals are beef.
It's always a good day when you can spend it with others who enjoy working with cattle for a living.
