SW WI | A few very nice days here this week and I always run into the problem of wishing I could clone myself. Still need to finish 60 acres of beans that doesn't want to dry and would love to get some corn off a couple of hillsides in case it turns wet around here again.
But we got our hog barns pumped out and of course getting stalks baled in weather like this is something you just can't pass up. Try to make our priorities...Getting bedding around usually wins out.
I've been fighting the flu the last couple days so everY thing just seems like it takes longer. Got to thinking about all the stuff to take care of with livestock before I can hit the field. At least this weekend my son will run the baler while I take care of the beans. My wife has been busy as well, took care of stirring the hog barns before the pumper showed up, shredding stalks to keep ahead of me baleing, and then hauling bales. Just the way it works this year but we have a long haul with the stalks about 10 miles. I like to rotate which fields we harvest the stalks off of and this is where we had corn off already.
With all our kids out of the house now, I realize how much work of just little things they did. Just giving us a ride to move equipment is a big help. So time to start the day again, mix some feed for the hogs, feed our steers, maybe need to bed them, wife will feed her beef calves and then get at harvest for me while wife keeps on moving bales.
We will see the grain only guys having coffee in their gathering spot.
