Subject: Down corn, how do these roots look to you? PICS

Eastern Iowa

Had a storm last night, lots of wind but only 2 inches of rain. Drove around to check for damage. Not much, a little wind damage around edges of fields here and there there. I covered several miles and saw lots of neighbors corn because my ground is scattered around over a few miles, even drove 10 miles to a distant farm. I saw almost no down corn anywhere except 3 of my fields. They had spots maybe10 to 20 feet wide 40 feet long irregular shaped and those spots are flat as flat gets. The corn is not broke, it's tipped over. The tipped stalks do not have roots sticking above ground, the stalks are just tipped over. The plants must be 8 or more feet tall, much taller than usual for this time of year. Ground was black soil at base of hill and it was muddy. The two longer stalks I pulled out without digging and the shorter one broke when I pulled so I used a spade to help it out. I washed the roots with a hose and all the wash water is in a bucket, I was looking for bugs or worms but don't see any. So anyway, take a look at these roots and tell me what you think. Thanks, Greg

I'll post more details on planting after I get some opinions on the roots.
