Planted: 4/16/2016
Population: 30,000
Fertilizer: 275# Urea broadcast and incorporated w/ one FC pass. (225# DAP, Potash, AMS) 1/3 of each put on 2 x 2 with planter. Also 5# of zinc.
Pre-emerge: None
Post: 4 pints Halex GT and 2.5 oz Northstar on June 12.
Top dress: 6/10/16- I will have to check. About 55# of N, and 12 S.
Previous Crop: 2013-corn, 2014-prevent plant, 2015-corn and lots of it.
Check Hybrid: DK 46-36ss

Just wanted to give a little update and a few pictures.

1. I finally figured out why the field isnt draining. The tile outlet is plugged on the neighbors side. Somewhere in the last 250 feet of the main. I suspect he hooked it with his ripper or tree roots found their way into the non-perforated tile. At first we thought the lake was too high and the water couldn't push out. Today I got confirmation that my main line is plugged or broken. It hasnt been dry enough to find out with heavy equipment. I am desperate to put a new outlet in IMMEDIATELY! To me the field looks like complete s***! It has an APH of 198, and I dont think I can get to 160 with the way it looks.

2. We have had WAY TOO MUCH RAIN! This site has 14-15+" since May 23rd. Wouldnt be so bad if the tile was actually working. North 4 miles it is over 18" since May 23. The plugged tile line screwed up all plans to spray and topdress and the wind and rain took care of all the other available days. I will have plenty of weed escapes, and that is something that really bothers me.

3. Unevenness. Unlike last year the field is not very uniform. The late test is not affected near as much as the early test. I am going to have to combine out the center section of the plot where the unevenness is to try and even it back up a little. Either way the final data will not be very good to me.

4. Shallow roots. With all the water the roots have done little exploring. I fear this site will be a prime candidate to get cooked once the water shuts off.

5. N response. My topdress application once again made a HUGE difference. The corn seems to have doubled in height in ten days, and it actually got some good color back to it.

6. SICK OF TOO MUCH RAIN!!! This officially makes 5 of the last 6 years. If I go ten miles east of this site the corn is beautiful and uniform with very little flooding. 20 miles and it gets really good.

7. Some hybrids are booming and a couple are doin pretty bad. Nutech 5L-503 looks awesome. DK 49-72 doing very well. My favorite from last year Renk 596 is struggling mightily. Probably took the worst pass across the field and didnt like the high residue on top of that.
