Subject: Craziness on Long Island about butchering a cow

Grabill, Indiana

An Agri-tourism destination on Long Island is in hot water with some people over their plan to slaughter their beef animal for food. There is a very vocal group that is enraged that the owners, Benner's Farm, over many things about this cow.

They claim that they are being cruel to the children because they did not specifically advertise that the cow would be come food. The group is also mad because the farm allowed children to pet the cow over the past two years. They are also don't understand how the family can name the cow, treat it well, then "murder a member of the family."

The group protested this past weekend and are trying to get more media attention to punish Benner's Farm for their transgression of growing a cow for food. An official from PETA is an administrator on the "Save Minnie from Slaughter" groups on Facebook. The group is demanding that the Benner's surrender the cow so it can live out its life on a Sanctuary. The groups is full of militant vegans and animal rightists, one has threatened to shutdown the farm if they don't comply.

There is a groundswell of support for the Benner's from their customer and their FaceBook page is filling will support, hopefully this will be enough to give them the strength to deal with these attacks.

By all accounts this is a working farm that is "Doing it right" according the the experts on the coasts. I will be watching how this drama unfolds, I hope the Benner's don't capitulate to the demands of this vocal minority.
