Subject: pricing freezer beef

North Central Kentucky
In the past we have always priced our freezer beef at slaughter based on market prices. That worked very poorly last year due to the steep decline in prices during fattening. We are kicking around the idea of pricing fats in advance this year based on feeder prices and fat prices when we begin finishing the calves to mitigate market risk. Does anyone else take a similar approach?
