Subject: Watching calves sell

central ND/SD border
Just wondering what others opinion is on going to sale to watch your calves sell. I heard an old saying once, "Your not there when the cow is bred, your probably not there when they are born, but you better be there when they are sold." To me I just seem to have other things to do besides sit in at a sale for up to 6 or 8 hrs waiting, or does it really make a difference on price to the buyers if the sellers are physically present? I can see if there might be a question about the calves, but most of the time the auctioneer rattles off all the stuff (shots, poured, etc), points our the sellers if he knows them, then goes off auction-ing. For you feedlot buyers do you bid more if the sellers are there? and also does it really matter if they "say" they had shots, since you really don't know if that's true or not. I heard that some feedlots give new arrivals the same treatment no matter what or where they came from.
