Subject: USDA/ProFarmer and the great hope....

EC Illinois / WC Indiana

Fat, Dumb, and happy we started corn yesterday.
Pumped with the assurances from the USDA that Illinois' yield will come in at 172 bu. And Profarmer's drive thru Iroquois county finding 200 bu corn.
Imagine my severe shock (tongue in cheek here) when the yield only came in at 99 bu. and likely lower due to areas where the head was picked up. (even lower than my own unscientific estimate of 120)

Background:
APH of 198bu.
53 acres patterned tiled 70' centers Drainage ditch borders both fields.
1/2 of 36 acres pattern tiled.
DK 60-67, DK 61-54 Hybrids.
April 15 planting
Pre Plant NH3.
Late May to early July rain total near 30" Totaled the low ground
Flash Drought July 15-August 20 polished off the high ground

Worst corn here since 1991.

But what do I know.
