Subject: Mealy apples

I've had it! I wonder what the grocery stores think these pre-bagged apples are good for? Absolutely nothing! Their soft, grainy dry texture ruins everything they are used in, with the possible exception being apple sauce or butter. Wife knows I like apples and always grabs a 5lb bag just to have me toss them in the trash after I bight into the first nice shiny apple I grab out of the bag just to get a mouthful of yuck. She has tried using them in salads, pies, etc. and all they do is ruin each dish she uses them in. I guess technology isn't quite there yet to ensure year-round crisp apple storage.
