Nevada, Iowa | ........ the post below regarding organic matter and soil tests has got me thinking. Hypothetically speaking, if you took new soil tests this year and your Potash levels were low (let's say 20% lower on the average than the last test) and the last test was 4 years ago. You have been spreading based on the last test and not deviating from that. Crops have been good but no different than the previous 4 years. No stover has been removed. For the sake of easy figuring, it's been continuous corn for 8+ years. Outside of the initial shock factor, how would you react to that? Would you apply more K than you have been or would you continue on the same pattern and retest next year or ........ ?
Again, this is hypothetical. Don't throw too many variables at this. If you are experiencing dry soils right now, don't enter that into your thinking. The soil was just right for this test and the same lab was used, they have not changed processes, same sampling techniques, etc. For discussion, what would you do? | |
