| I have an opportunity to get some wet distillers grain for free from a local whisky distillery. I have a small dairy farm (milking 70 cows). I am wondering how I can handle it with a few challenges. The distillery only produces small amounts per day 2 to 2.5 tonnes, 4 days per week for 10 weeks, October to December. I would be feeding around 0.5 to 0.75 tonne per day. Can I store this in a small bunker and cover it with plastic and feed it through out the winter? Also will it be worth the time 3 to 4 hours per week to pickup, haul and cover the grain. Wondering what other small producers experience has been feeding this and storing it. I am not too concerned about a little spoilage, but more with the time, cost and inconvenience compared with flicking a switch on my soybean meal bin. | |
