Kingston,Mi | Redgreenandrust, M-46 is so much nicer to drive that it was nearly 50 years ago when the road bed followed the topagraphy along side the road so that hill west of town at the Iron Horse Tavern was 6 to 8 feet lower at the intersection with several dips and rises until you got to the top which is 6 to 8 feet lower than before, same way on the otherside of the hill at Shaw Road. where that intersection is at grade but is 10 feet higher than the original road bed just 500 feet west and 10 to 12 feet lower that original just 500 feet east. M-46 was a real rollercoaster for the 2 miles east of town to 10 miles west.
Maxx, I thought about the fire you described, one fire about the time you describe would be at the south village limits where a small cattle barn burned, if you ate at Beagio's on your way to Marlette , the owners wife or dauhter may have served you. The other fire would have been on a Monday during wheat harvest when a neighbor lost a John Deere combine to an engine fire, it had been on fire and put out on Sunday without any damage. The dealership mechanic was working on it when it went up in flames (so I hear from all the typical sources), total loss. | |
