Subject: Headlights on 737 Mower-causing alternator light to come on

Macon, IL
I put a couple headlights on my 737 mower, just wired them to a switch and directly to the battery. After being on about 5 minutes the alternator light starts to flicker-after 10 mins it stays on full.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions, and if I am going to damage anything?

I figure a more powerful alternator is next to impossible on that Vanguard engine. Was thinking of 2 batteries-if I could find a spot to mount 2nd one-then just wire them together in serial.

Biggest thing is I don't want to damage alternator.

Thoughts?
