Subject: Calibrating a Demco squeeze pump?

Central Minnesota
I have a Demco squeeze pump, and can give you this much information as to where it's set now: drive tire size- 9.5Lx14, drive sprocket-24, driven sprocket-28, meters set all the way out (on 4 setting), 1/2" tubes that go into 3/8" at the opener. I am aiming for 6 gal. an acre (6-24-6). The book says the lowest you get can out of a 1/2" tube is 9 gal. per acre, which has me puzzled because a friend has almost the same setup with the same size hoses, and gets 6 gal./ac. wondering if maybe I should just look at his and set it the same way? If anyone can help me out on this one, that would be great, and as always, thank you very much in advance.
