Subject: The bindweed saved us

In an area where we've had less than 3 inches of rainfall in the past twelve months, and where the pastures failed to green up this year, we ended up running pairs on a stubble field that has been full of bindweed. I'd planned on moving the cattle onto the permitted forest service land and spraying once we got some rain, but it never happened. We carried 16 pairs and a bull on 240 acres. As the bindweed has stopped growing it's time to start feeding the cattle, but I can only imagine how many head we could've grazed had the bindweed actually greened up. Anyone have any idea on the nutrient content of bindweed? I did a little research online this morning, but never came up with anything solid.
