Subject: Combine fire the other night got me thinking

West Central Wisconsin
Been running a friends 9510 for a week and a half and had a fire start in the feeder house reverser area. Got the fire put out on the combine and the ground and was able to get to saftey without any damage or loss but it was sure an adrennelin rush for me. There are a million things that are rushing through your mind during a fire and I got to wondering how the outcome could have been different if someone older or less experienced had been running it. I guess I keep thinking if it had happened with our own combine and my dad was running it. It was an hour before my heart rate slowed down a bit and my legs were shaking long after. I wonder how many combines have been lost because the operator was older and not able to react to the situation. While my dad does not run our combine I had thought this year maybe he would be able to run it but after my excitement the other night maybe not. Joe.
