Subject: Wood chips at tile outlets

Gettysburg, PA
I posted this within the thread on the Chesapeake Bay where Paul the Original (original what btw?) mentioned the possible requirement of wood chips at tile outlets and I thought I'd make it a new thread.  I've read about the use of wood chips or other high C median being used at tile outlets to reduce nitrogen discharge from said tile lines.  Anybody doing this?  What maintenance issues arise?  I understand that the material needs replaced periodically.  How often?  Do you replace or just add more?
