In one of your posts you stated....."We count harvest able ears that are representative of the field. If 34 paces past the endrows take us into a short yellow spot we count ears that have grain on them. If the endrows have a half acre of drowned out corn and the rest of the field looks fine we walk 34 paces past the endrows and take the sample."
It seems to me that by not taking the zero you are skewing the results higher. It would be like trying to decide whether you needed to replant and you only counted the good areas of the field. Shoot, if I deduct the ponds, holes, waterways etc. my yield would be much higher as well. I think if you are dropping the zero, you should also drop the highest yield. I cannot imagine how you can see the rest of the field unless you have a plane flying over it. The ponds this year might make a difference, maybe it won't. Your explanation please. Thanks
