Subject: Corn on corn system

I was wondering if anybody has tried vertical tillage systems for continuous corn. I have a Great Plains Turbo Till that I'd like to use to process the stalks in the fall and spring before I plant. The straight coulters only run about 3-5 inches deep so they don't incorporate the residue substantially but does a good job of sizing the residue for decomposition. The reason I'm considering this system is that it is cheap to run this tool as opposed to a fall primary tillage tool followed by field cultivator in the spring. I know the same rules will apply as far as disease management in continuous corn but I'm wondering how to manage N needs and application in this higher residue environment. Obviously yield drag is a big issue with any reduced tillage system in continuous corn also. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this type of system. I know strip till is a potential option but I am not ready to go that direction at this point.
