![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=13525&type=profile&rnd=939) Central MN | I have an old deck that I’m working on replacing. IT’s cantilevered but the lumber yard says I can just cut off the old joists and slide a new 2x8 in next to it. Only problem is the current joists are 20 inches apart. Trex website says 16 inch max and the lumber yard tells me I should be fine at 20 inch spacing? I’m thinking it may be a little springy at 20’inches. What do you fellas think?
My other option is to use green treated 2x6 decking. On the current version of the deck they have 2x6s that I think are cedar but many of the boards are rotten. This would be about a third the cost of Trex but I like the no maintenance of Trex.
