Subject: organic tillage system experiment

Hello folks,

Thought some of you might like to see some pics of the organic tillage system experiment that we finished planting today.

Here is a link to an album of about 60 photos showing the cover crops we planted last fall and many views along the way up to today when we no-till drilled beans into the no-till system.

I have posted about this experiment before before but very briefly the tillage systems are:

conventional till - oats were drilled last fall, multiple tillage operations before planting soybeans on 30" rows, will be cultivated as needed

minimum till - oats were drilled and radishes were planted on 30" rows last fall, shallow tillage a few hours before soybeans were planted on the same 30" rows as the radishes, will be cultivated as needed

no-till = drilled to rye and vetch last fall (very poor establishment/survival of vetch), rye rolled about 10 days ago with a cultimulcher, soybeans drilled into rye this afternoon, no cultivation

Tillage systems are replicated 4 times. Plots are 10' wide by ~ 500'.

2 photos (that are also in the picasa album) should be attached.
