Subject: Alfalfa and weeds

N FLA
Does alfalfa choke out weeds pretty well, or is it's allelopathy only against itself?

I've never dealt alfalfa here but have planted one field. Main weed is what we call Florida Pusley, which is a pretty nutritional weed in grazing systems. So that's probably no big deal. But just wondering how weeds respond in an alfalfa system. They appear to be starving of nutrients while the alfalfa is making N. Do they kind of blow up after a cutting? Or do they end up pretty well suppressed? Or do you always plan some particular weed control strategy.

I was told to mow at 4" high, is that correct?
