Subject: What do you think of a DT530 engine

Still looking at trucks, found a 99' IH 2654 with a DT530 (Detriot?) engine in it, how many HP is it? It has a 8LL trans. whats that? How many gears?

20' dumping flat steel bed, deep reduction 16,000 front end, 40 rear on air suspension, front floats, tandem dual rear axle. (Assuming it has air brakes but not sure)

What is your experence with the motor, trans., and truck.

We would put sides on it and haul in fill dirt (tree nursery, need to back fill holes where trees have been dug) also want it to pull a 16'- 25' trailer (probable pintle) for trees or skid loader while having trees on the 20' bed of the truck.

total weight on truck would be about 16,500lb. maximum, and the approximate weight of the load on the trailer (not including trailer weight) would be 13,200-19,800lb. maximum.

What we want is a versitile truck that will pay for itself and not just sit around 9mo. out of the year.

Thanks for the input guys.
