Subject: Log house insulation

Central PA
My wife and I are restoring our 200 +/- year old log farm house. We're planning to leave the sheathing and insulated siding on the outside, but expose the logs on the inside. Had originally planned to put a layer of spray foam between the logs to prevent air penetration, followed by batt insulation, followed by metal lath and cement for the finished inner layer. I experimented with the spray foam last night, and it's definitely going to be a pain. Where there are wide gaps between the logs we'd have to build it up a little at a time. Is it really necessary to make that air barrier? Would we be just as well off just using the batt insulation? We could also cut pieces of styrofoam to match the spaces between the logs and spray foam where the styrofoam meets the logs.
