Subject: Corn vs gluten price?

NE, NE
First year without corn silage here or any silage for that matter so I’ve talked to a few nutritionist and some private independent dealers this summer/fall about getting corn gluten to feed calves and cows. I like feeding it as it adds a lot of moisture to ground hay and stalks and there’s no sorting. The guys always say at “x price” corn will be cheaper to feed than buying gluten. How do they figure this value? (Let’s say gluten delivered is $73/ton.)
Other times quoting prices they say the gluten price is say $73/ton which is “$3.75” in corn. Don’t take the last example to heart I threw the price out there for reference, but are they referring to the same figure.Just curious if And when I could make the call myself to feed gluten or feed ground corn in the wagon with a garden hose?

I have a mixer wagon, spoilage is minimal especially in cold weather with our gluten. Thanks
