Shaftsbury, Vermont (SW VT) | Interesting story told by local dairy after the recent ice storm. They had their IVT tractor on the generator. The power management computer ran the engine just fast enough to maintain the proper speed, and would speed up the throttle if another load came on line. He said it used WAY less fuel doing this, and the voltage hardly varied when a larger load was needed. Just another way that premium features have unexpected benefits. OD
p.s. Now why won't Deere let the sensors that monitor things like oil pressure, engine temp, and even fuel level work like a Murphy switch and protect the tractor in case something goes wrong? I know it will derate for certain exception inputs, but why can't you make a Murphy out of it? Instructors at schools said they wanted to keep the tractor from shutting down in the middle of the road or something, but can't it be programmed to recognize there's nobody in the seat--the tranny's in park--it's OK to shutdown?
